EPDM Rubber Roofing — Proven Performance for Florida Flat Roofs
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber roofing membrane that has been installed on flat roofs since the 1960s. It’s one of the most extensively tested commercial roofing materials in the world, with a proven track record on warehouses, distribution centers, industrial facilities, and large commercial buildings across all climate zones including Florida.
EPDM’s rubber composition gives it excellent flexibility — it remains pliable in extreme temperatures and handles thermal expansion and contraction well. It’s also highly resistant to ozone and UV degradation. For Central Florida warehouses and industrial flat roofs where energy efficiency is a secondary concern, EPDM offers excellent value.
However, compared to TPO roofing, standard black EPDM absorbs significantly more heat. For occupied commercial buildings in Florida where cooling costs are significant, white-surfaced EPDM or TPO is the better choice.
