TPO Roofing

TPO roofing is Thermoplastic Polyolefin roofing. These roofing membranes are single-ply, and provide superior UV protection. Installation can be done mechanically, ballasted, or they can to the building. TPO offers superior seam strength to other options, such as EPDM roofs. Energy efficiency has become a priority in many commercial workplaces, and TPO can help save on energy costs. Since it uses lighter colored materials it can reduce the amount of heat absorbed into the building. This means that your air conditioning will not have to work as hard to keep you and your staff comfortable.

BUR Roofing

Built-up roofs (BUR) is a classic roofing system. BUR uses tar and gravel layered on the roof deck to create a watertight seal. The bottom layer is nailed or otherwise installed mechanically to the deck, which the subsequent layers are applied with tar or another adhesive. Gravel is used on the top layer. These layers are often known as “plies”. In some cases, a BUR system is created by rolling bitumen onto the deck that is covered with ceramic grains. These will then function as asphalt shingles.

Modified Bitumen Roofing

There are two types of modified bitumen roofing systems: atactic polypropylene (APP), and styrene butadiene styrene (SBS). APP membranes are plastic, and SBS membranes are an elastic asphalt. Both systems use heat to apply the roofing membranes. SBS does need some finesse as overheating can be an issue. Despite that, SBS is usually a faster install than APP. The plastic membranes of the APP system can crack sooner than with SBS. Both systems required comprehensive maintenance and regular inspections.

EPDM Roofing

Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPMD) roofing is a material that is considered very durable. It is single-ply, and made of a synthetic rubber. It can be installed using one of several methods. The seams can be adhered using special seam tapes or another specially designed liquid adhesive. EPDM only comes in white or black. This roofing system tends to last longer, so they are cost effective in the long run and can help prevent waste. In terms of protection from extreme weather, EPDM might be the best option.
